Vintage Norway

I've been looking through the flickr commons at copyright free images of Norway and came upon these vintage beauties. What a majestic country! I'd love to see the fjords some day. Take a look at these amazing photos. You should be taken to the flickr source with more info by clicking on them:

Which scene do you wish you could step into? I can almost hear all that rushing water. And aren't the sod roofs amazing? I've read that many scandinavian homes insulated their roofs with layers of sod and turf to keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter. They would plant gardens and even small trees on them. Now that's a great use of space!

Thanks for your visit!~
Heather

  2. These photos are beautiful! I really hope our trip to Norway works out this summer so perhaps, I can see some of these views in real time. Last summer, in Normany , France, the old sod roofs featured blue iris growing along the top seam line of the roof. It was amazingly beautiful in the summer. One question I would have would be if a sod roof makes it easier for a fire to start?

    1. I hope you get your Norwegian trip too! How fun will that be?! you know you'll have to take a million photos and share them with us! :D

I imagine if the room if kept moist (and Im sure since its covered in snow for months and months it is a lot!) it doesnt pose much of a fire danger. Here, however, with our drought...it would go up in a minute!

  4. Hi Heather...thanks for stopping by my blog! I love all of the Nordic things in the world. I became obssed with the Sami people for a while and even did a large needle felted sculpture of a gnome dreaming of a reindeer last summer. If I could I would step into the big church in the first photo but would be happy to step anywhere Nordic! Cheers...Kerry
